Abraham’s Faith: Seeking God’s Presence

Reflecting on this Sunday’s message “Developing an Apostolic Lifestyle Part 7 – Desiring the Manifest Presence of Jesus,” I’m struck by the profound truth encapsulated in Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. This verse serves as a powerful reminder of God’s unconditional love and grace, which forms the foundation of our relationship with Him.

One of the key verses that anchors this message is Hebrews 6:13-15 “When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, ‘I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.’ And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.”This verse encapsulates the essence of God’s faithfulness and the importance of patient faith in our spiritual journey.

The message emphasizes that God’s desire to bless us goes beyond what we deserve. Just as Abraham received God’s promise of blessing and multiplication, we too are heirs to these promises through Christ. It’s humbling to realize that God’s favor rests upon us not because of our perfection, but despite our imperfections.

One of the key points that resonated with me is the idea that blessing is meant to be passed on. As recipients of God’s unmerited favor, we’re called to be channels of His blessing to others. This reminds me of the apostle Paul’s words, “What I received, I pass on to you”. In a world often driven by self-interest, this principle challenges us to live generously and selflessly.

The message also highlights the importance of desiring God’s presence. Abraham’s encounter with God at Mamre serves as a beautiful illustration of how we should eagerly seek God’s presence in our lives. Just as Abraham ran to meet his divine visitors, we too should cultivate a deep longing for God’s manifest presence.

The most encouraging aspect of this message is the reminder that with God, nothing is impossible. Whether it’s the miraculous birth of Isaac to elderly Abraham and Sarah, or the challenges we face in our own lives, God is able to do far beyond what we can imagine.

As I reflect on this message, I’m challenged to examine my own life. How often do I truly desire God’s presence? Do I run towards Him with the same eagerness as Abraham? Am I allowing God’s blessings to flow through me to others? These are questions worth pondering as we seek to develop an apostolic lifestyle.

Let’s be encouraged today that no matter where we are in our journey, God’s love for us remains constant. He desires to bless us and use us to bless others. May we, like Abraham, eagerly seek His presence and trust in His promises, knowing that in Christ, we are loved beyond measure.
