In our journey of faith, we often encounter moments that challenge us to step out boldly and live an apostolic lifestyle. This message, centered on Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power,” invites us to reflect on what it truly means to draw our strength from God.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
Ephesians 6:10
The month of Elul in the Jewish calendar offers us a beautiful parallel to this concept. It’s a time of spiritual preparation, introspection, and renewal, leading up to the High Holy Days. Just as the shofar is blown daily during Elul as a call to repentance, Paul’s words serve as our wake-up call to rely on God’s strength rather than our own.
Living an apostolic lifestyle isn’t about our own power or abilities. It’s about recognizing our identity in Christ and allowing His strength to flow through us. When we truly understand who we are in Him, we gain the confidence and strength to face life’s challenges. This identity isn’t just a label; it’s a transformative reality that shapes our actions and attitudes.
The Greek word “Loipou” used in Ephesians 6:10 carries the meaning of “from now on” or “henceforth”. This suggests that being strong in the Lord isn’t a one-time event, but a continuous action. It’s a daily choice to align ourselves with God’s power, much like the daily spiritual practices during Elul.
When we root ourselves in God’s strength, amazing things can happen. Our blessings aren’t just received; they’re multiplied. It’s like the Kingdom principle of multiplication – the more we rely on God and share His love, the more it grows and impacts others.
But this strength isn’t just for our benefit. As we grow in our relationship with God, we’re called to step out in faith, even when faced with obstacles or fear. Sometimes, these obstacles might seem as daunting as a snake at the door, but when we partner with God, seemingly impossible things can happen.
Remember, our ultimate joy doesn’t come from our spiritual accomplishments, but from our relationship with God. As Luke 10:20 reminds us, we rejoice not because spirits submit to us, but because our names are written in heaven. This eternal perspective gives us the courage to live boldly for Christ, no matter the circumstances.
As we strive to develop an apostolic lifestyle, let’s keep in mind that it’s not about our own power, but about staying connected to the true source of strength – Jesus Christ. In John 15:5, Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”This connection is the key to our fruitfulness and effectiveness in God’s kingdom.
“You have to be strong in your relationship with God before you can be strong in the power of His might.”

So, as we move forward in our faith journey, let’s continually ask ourselves: How can we deepen our relationship with God to access His mighty power in our daily lives? In what areas of our lives do we need to step out in faith, trusting in God’s strength rather than our own?
Remember, we are beloved children of God, created with a divine purpose. Just as there’s a spark of light at the moment of conception, we too are called to bring light to the world. Be encouraged that as we lean on God’s strength, we are equipped to live out an apostolic lifestyle, making a lasting impact for His kingdom. From this moment on, may we be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!
